Know Your True Worth

This month is my mom’s birthday month and I am so grateful for her life of love. She is a woman of prayer, kindness and generosity. She calls others to check in on them, buys cards for family and friends for birthdays, when they are sick, and just to show them love. She sends her niece and nephew’s children a card for birthdays and “just because” to let them know someone really cares, and slips in a $10 for the little ones so they can have some fun money.

My mom said she didn’t want a birthday party, so I was praying God would place it on people’s hearts to celebrate her and show her her worth. Showing up for others is one way I believe God shows us our worth through others’ love and care. Today one of her cousins drove 7 hours with her daughter and grandson to surprise my mom. It was a simple lunch celebration at Chick Fil A, one of my mom’s favorite places. She and I were so touched to have three members of our family drive so far during their fall break to honor my mom and show her how much she means to them. We were so blessed today… Lots of love shared around the table. Her cousin’s grandson was standing at the entrance of Chick Fil A with a big smile and a present for my mom. Such love!

Today is a reminder for me how much it means to show appreciation for others and remember all the times others have shown appreciation for me. It’s a gift from God to have people show up for special and ordinary days. What a gift of presence we received today from people who decided to make a long trip to honor my dear mama! I thank God for His good gifts of family who love us so well.
